Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – When you’re watching the World Junior Hockey Championships this winter break, you will be seeing a part of Westman on the goaltender’s helmets.
Local Assiniboine Community College student Brooks Freeman won a contest designing a goalie helmet for Team Canada.
The Virden native says it’ll be awesome to see when’s he’s at home watching the games.
"Tons of people watch Team Canada," said Freeman, "It’s going to be seen by everybody and it’ll be cool to see."
In the past Freeman has won other contests including the 25th anniversary logo for the ECHL team Charlotte Stingrays, where he was flown down to watch them unveil the jerseys.
Freeman says he was interested in making jerseys and logo since he was 11 or 12 years old and found an online community with other people who were interested as well.
Now studying Digital Media Design at ACC, he says he eventually wants to make this hobby, his full or part-time job.
"I know I got something here," said Freeman, "I’m going to try to get better and make a real nice career out of it."
