Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Manitoba residents should be aware of another phone scam making the rounds.
Manitoba Hydro is warning customers to be wary of calls notifying them their power will be cut off if they don't make a payment.
A number of businesses and individuals have claimed recent calls were displayed on their phones as from HYDRO.
But Spokesman Bruce Owen says they don't make such warnings out of the blue.
"We give repeated warnings on disconnections, it's not pay us now or you'll lose your power, we don't operate that way," Owen said.
If you receive such a call, Owen advises people to hang up.
"If you're getting a phone call and someone is saying that you need to wire money or access money and ask for a credit card number, it's a scam," Owen said.
Hydro only accepts payment by mail or online at their site.
