The Province's Beef Producers have welcomed the provincial government's move to allow cattle producers to temporarily use Crown land for grazing and hay production.
Tom Teichroeb, president of the Manitoba Beef producers Association, says the move will allow producers additional feed options during a tough year.
Last week, the Province announced the the Agricultural Crown Lands Leasing program would administer access to Crown Lands for producers.
They will be able to graze livestock until October 31, and cut hay until November 15 under the program.
The Province is also thinking of asking crop producers to make their residue available to livestock producers.
Teichroeb says "we will continue to engage with the government about the effects of the dry conditions and possible strategies to help producers deal with these situations, such as water supply challenges."
