Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – A sell out crowd was witness to the Brandon Bobcats’ first Canada West Championship on home court at the Healthy Living Centre.
The five-set thriller between the Bobcats and the #2 Trinity Western Spartans was an instant classic, that was back and forth.
The Bobcats won the five sets 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12.
Seth Friesen led the way for Brandon, with 16 kills and 4 blocks.
To cap off an exceptional playoff run, Robin Baghdaddy had 15 kills, 6 blocks and 1 ace.
The teams traded sets, and even traded momentum in the fifth and final set, with Trinity Western taking a 8-7 lead when the teams traded sides.
The teams traded points all the way to 11-11, until Brandon got three straight points.
A Jacob Kern attack error is what sealed it for the Bobcats.
It is Brandon’s second ever Canada West title, and first since 2013.
Both teams will head to the U Sports Nationals next weekend in Quebec City from March 15-17.
