Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Canada West men’s volleyball playoffs will be going through Brandon this spring.
The Brandon Bobcats men’s volleyball team defeated the MacEwan Griffins in three straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-22).
Brandon (19-2) clinched first place in the Canada West with the win, meaning any Bobcats playoff games over the next month will be played at the Healthy Living Centre.
Even with the win, all three sets were close with the 3-18 Griffins giving the Bobcats all they had.
In the game, James Weir set a new school record with most blocks during a career, beating the 317 mark set by Joel Small.
He had 10 kills, 6 blocks and an ace in the game.
Meanwhile, in the women’s game, the Bobcats lost in four sets to the Griffins.
The scores were (25-12, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23).
Nikala Majewski led the way for the Bobcats with 16 kills, 1 block and 1 ace.
Both Bobcats teams play again on Saturday against MacEwan at the HLC at 5:00 p.m. for the women’s team and 6:45 p.m. for the men’s team.
