Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Bobcat men’s volleyball team completed a season-opening weekend sweep of the visiting Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night at the Healthy Living Centre.
Seth Friesen and James Weir both provided nine kills each as the Bobcats bounced the Huskies in straight sets.
Brandon’s win in the second set was built on their brilliant .583 hitting percentage.
The Bobcats head into a bye week in Canada West competition.
BU will put their 2-0 record on the line when they welcome the defending U SPORTS national champions, the UBC Thunderbirds on November 2.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats women’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Huskies to drop their second straight game to start the season.
They showed a sign of life in the third set though as the team trailed 18-5 in the third but mounted a late comeback, fighting to within one point at 19-18, but the Huskies stayed the course and ended the match on a 4-1 run.
The win improves Saskatchewan’s record to 2-0 in conference play while the Bobcats fall to 0-2.
