Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The #2 team in the Canada West, the Brandon Bobcats men’s volleyball team, started their 2018-19 campaign with a four-set win over the visiting Saskatchewan Huskies.
The set scores were 25-15, 25-19, 27-29 and 25-21.
Robin Baghdady had an impressive BU debut with the Swiss star scoring a team-high 14 kills.
James Weir was involved in 10 blocks and Reece Dixon delivered 48 assists.
Seth Friesen finished just shy of a double-double with 13 kills and nine digs.
Meanwhile earlier int he evening, Nikki Majewski’s record-breaking evening couldn’t lift the Bobcats women’s volleyball team to a win over the Huskies.
Saskatchewan came away with a 3-2 (25-20, 25-27, 28-30, 26-24, 15-11) win over the hosts.
Outside hitter Majewski had a career night, registering a Brandon University women’s volleyball school record with 24 kills, surpassing the previous record held by Shanlee McLennan.
The Huskies and Bobcats play again on Saturday night, with the women’s game at 5:00 p.m., and the men’s game right after.
