Both teams lose by double digits

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Both Brandon Bobcats basketball teams fell in similar ways in their home openers on Friday at the Healthy Living Centre.

In the women's game, a first half nail-biter turned into a one-sided fight in the second half as the Manitoba Bisons beat the host Brandon Bobcats 97-84.

Taylor Randall and Nicole Konieczny combined for 63 points for the Bisons.

The teams traded blows through-out the first half before the Bisons jumped to a 7-0 run early in the third before extending their lead to 10 at 62-52 late in the third.

Lauren Anderson had a strong night for the Bobcats, contributing a team-high 26 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

Meanwhile in the men's game, the team dropped an 88-78 decision against the Bisons.

Manitoba had balanced scoring with five players reaching double figures.

Rashawn Browne was just shy of a triple-double, scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

BU had a big first quarter pouring in 25 points, which was built off six three pointers.

The Bisons equaled the Bobcats in the second with a 25-point quarter of their own.

The biggest momentum swing went in favour of Manitoba.

The game was deadlocked 62-62, before the Bisons recorded ten straight points to cement their road victory.

Both teams will play rematches on Saturday night at the HLC, when the women's game starts at 5:00 p.m. and the men's game is at 7:00 p.m.
