Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings earned their 2nd consecutive victory, with a 5-1 win over Regina on Friday night.
In the 2nd game in three nights, the Wheat Kings got off to a quick start. For the 16th time this season the BWK opened the scoring. Schael Higson sent a stretch pass to Ben McCartney who made no mistake, beating Max Paddock with a deke that sent the Westoba Place crowd into a frenzy.
The Pats responded on their first powerplay of the night as newcomer Ty Kolle found a rebound and beat Ethan Kruger.
Before the period would end, the Wheaties would regain the lead on a faceoff play. Connor Gutenberg, who was 4/6 on the draw in the period won the puck back to Linden McCorrister who used his centreman as a screen and beat Paddock for his 5th of the season.
The Wheat Kings busted the game open in the 2nd period, by scoring twice and taking a 4-1 lead into the intermission.
First, it was Luka Burzan on the powerplay. The Surrey, BC native has now scored three times in the last two games.
Before the period would end, Cole Reinhardt scored his 2nd in as many nights, beating Paddock on a wrap-around.
Marcus Sekundiak would add an insurance marker in the third period to put the game out of reach. With an assist on the goal, Vinny Iorio registered his first career WHL point.
Ethan Kruger stopped 29 shots for his 3rd victory of the season, while Paddock took the loss, making 24 saves.
The Wheat Kings head to Swift Current Saturday night for their second meeting this week with the Broncos. (7:00 on QCountry Radio).
