Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The City of Brandon will be the host city for the 2019 Brier, the Men’s Canadian Curling Championships.
It is the first time since 1982 that city has hosted the event and the first time since 2008 it was in Manitoba, when Winnipeg hosted the event.
The event will run from March 2-10, 2019 at Westman Communications Place.
"Brandon has a proud tradition of playing host to first-class championship events, both on and off the ice, and the Western Manitoba’s base of volunteers and curling fans make us thoroughly confident that the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier will be an amazing show," says Resby Coutts, Chair of Curling Canada’s Board of Governors.
A major boost in the bid process is when the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup was played in Brandon, drawing record crowds.
The 2019 Tim Hortons Brier will feature a 16-team field, including all 14 provincial/territorial champions of Curling Canada’s Member Associations, along with the defending champion Team Canada. The 16th entry will be decided in a wild-card play-in game on the Friday (March 1) before the opening of round-robin play.
