Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The Brandon University's 50th anniversary homecoming weekend continues with a day full of reunions and a keynote that promises to be out of this world.
Decorated astronaut, engineer and pilot Col. Chris Hadfield will launch the BU50 celebrations with the first of two speaking engagements this evening.
His Friday evening keynote at the Westman Centennial Auditorium was one of the fastest sellouts in recent memory for the venue.
Hadfield will speak on "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth," showing the audience how to think like an astronaut while sharing some of his experiences from his remarkable career.
"The exploration of space is truly an inspirational experience, and I look forward to bringing that inspiration to Brandon," said Col. Hadfield.
Hadfield will also present a daytime talk on the importance of STEM education to selected middle years students from Brandon and Westman area schools.
Meanwhile, many of the classes celebrating special anniversaries will host their own gatherings to reminisce this weekend.
One in particular will be the class of 1968, which was the first to graduate with a Brandon University degree after the institution received it's official charter.
There are plenty of events are scheduled for alumni and longtime supporters to enjoy throughout this weekend.
