Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Shovels will hit the ground on Brandon's new school this winter.
The contract has been awarded for the construction of the new kindergarten-to-K-8 school on Maryland Avenue.
Fresh Projects of Winnipeg was awarded the contract Friday.
The 22.4 million dollar school will accommodate 450 students, and will host pre-school and infant child care. It will also be expandable to a total capacity of 675 students.
The school will have a multi-purpose space, band room, library, gymnasium, home economics and industrial arts spaces, along with a science, technology, electronics and mathematics lab.
Brandon East MLA Len Isliefson says the new school has been talked about for years, and he's pleased it's finally going to happen. He says it shows the Pallister government's commitment to quality education, in responding to the need for new schools.
The school is expected to be ready for September 2020.
