Winnipeg, MB (CKLQ) - A protection group is calling on the provincial government to stop ignoring calls for a caribou recovery plan.
A plan was supposed to be created this year, but the government missed the federal timeline.
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society says this is an issue among residents in the province as there has been 21,000 petitions and letters sent to the government about the plan.
CPAWS sent a release saying all provinces don't do enough to protect caribou populations and the issues can not be ignored anymore.
"We believe the Federal Government needs to put more pressure on the provinces to get this recovery plans in place as soon as possible."
According to CPAWS, the Manitoba government’s current projection is to have plans for caribou ranges at greatest risk by 2018 and the remainder by 2020.
