Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The 8th annual Easter Seals sens a kid to camp Bonspiel is in the books.

The Brandon based event which helps send kids to camp raised $12,000.

Event Chairperson Cam Toews says it's a fun bonspiel which attracts curlers of all skill levels, "It's a fun event with creative scoring which really caters to the non-curler per-se' and we really encourage them to come out so you don't have to be good."

He says a first time curler could beat a world class curler.

Toews says some of the best known curlers in the region have taken part in the event over the years, "We've had both Lyburn rinks, Rob Fowler's team, Cale Dunbar who was just at provincials along with Travis Brooks."

Toews adds, "They come out for the fun of it and we really appreciate their support. We also have curlers who only come to this event and look forward to it every year."

The Century 21 nationally is involved with Easter Seals and Toews who is a local realtor, has been curling for 20 years and is currently at Brandon's Riverview curling club.

He's always wanted to help create a local event which combines fun non competitive curling with a charity.

Since the first annual the bonspiel has raised over $86,000.

Spots for the 2019 event are expected to fill up fast.

Curlers can sign up through Toews social media.
