Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The search for Brandon teacher Jeff Freiheit continues in the German Alps.

According to an update of Selena Freiheit's Facebook page a private helicopter managed to cover an extensive area which included high risk areas.

The efforts of highly experienced locals and professional pilots compliment the work of the Mountain Search and Rescue Team.

All information from the private search will be relayed to the police and Mountain Search and Rescue.

This information will assist in planning the next steps for the search for Jeff.

His family is asking for Canadian provincial and federal aid in the search.

The area where Freiheit is believed to be is a mountainous part of the Dream Way hiking trail with deep trenches and treacherous overhangs.

The family says government aid would help with air searches and more advanced rescue technology, as well as more trained search personnel.

Q Country News will have updates as they become available.

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The latest update on the search for Brandonite Jeff Freiheit who went missing in the German Alps and has not been heard from since August 1, 2018.

According to German authorities 20 search and rescue personnel along with alpine policemen searched the areas of Lenggries, Bad Tölz, Penzberg and Armpit Heads intensively Friday.

Drones and dogs were also used, but authorities say no evidence of the missing person could be found.

Officials say only a slipper was found that probably didn't come from the missing person.

German authorities say all technical resources have been exhausted after more than three days of searching.

On Friday night, authorities discussed their next possible course of action.

We'll have regular updates here as they're made available.

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - German authorities have a new clue to go on in the search for Brandonite Jeff Freiheit.

He was last heard from August first prior to going on a planned hike in the Alps.

Authorities now say Freiheit did not check in to a location he was supposed to have stayed in on August 3rd.

Also, two girls may have helped him at a German grocery store on that date.

Officials are now trying to locate the girls.

German media have been cooperating with extra coverage on the story.

As they scour the alps, 40 volunteers have joined the search along with four dogs and drone helicopters.

A garment has been found and officials are now trying to determine if it belongs to Freiheit.

Meanwhile the go fund me page the Freiheits set up to help finance their search efforts has surpassed its initial goal of $35,000.

The new goal on the page is $40,000.

We'll have more details as they become available.

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The latest on Jeff Freiheit, the Brandon man who went missing August first after heading out on a hike in Germany.

His Wife Selena and his mother Kathy are in Germany narrowing down his possible location to a very specific spot.

A message on Selena's Facebook page notes they're doing so through key witnesses with detailed accounts of where they may have seen him last.

They received a tip that two girls helped an English man on August 3 at a grocery story in Jachenau, Germany.

Although the man the girls reportedly had contact with may or may not be Freiheit, his wife and mother are asking  anyone who may have any contacts in Germany to share their post on social media.

The Mountain Search and Rescue police are heading out today to complete a more detailed search from the area Jeff was last seen, to where he was supposed to spend the night.

The Freiheits also report the story was in German newspapers and will be televised throughout all of Germany this evening.

They may rent additional helicopters to aid in the search.

Selena and Kathy thank everyone who have supported their efforts though a go fund me page which you can link to here.

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - A 32-year-old man from Brandon is missing in the Alps.

Police in Europe say Jeff David Freiheit disappeared during a hike in the German Alps, and has not been heard from since August 1.

Officials say Freiheit has not been seen since he stopped in a town called Bad Tolz on the outskirts of Munich.

His wife, Selena Anne Freiheit, who is a kindergarten teacher in the Brandon School Division, said he was traveling alone on The Dream Way, a hiker's route, from Munich to Venice.

"Everything was on an itinerary, every place he was staying was reserved, so we're following up with all those locations to see if maybe he's turned up or has called," she said. "We're exhausting every option, but no answer yet."

She said Jeff is an experienced hiker, and he was on a tight schedule from Germany to Italy.

"The last time I heard from him through Facetime was August 1 at 9:58pm, Manitoba time, which was August 2 at 4:58am in his time zone," she said. "We were in daily contact for those first few days, and he was posting on his Instagram page."

Jeff is approximately 6'1 in height, 175 lbs, with a slim athletic build, brown hair and brown eyes.

Selena Anne says the family is working with the Canadian Consulate, and the German Police, as they work to get the word out in Europe.

"It's stressful, but our main goal at this time is to let as many people know in Europe, especially hikers in Germany, Austria and Italy. We're hoping that they can share his photo and his last known whereabouts," she said.

Jeff Freiheit was expected back in Brandon at the end of August.
