Lethbridge, AB (CKLQ) – Penalties spelled trouble for the Brandon Wheat Kings as they dropped a 7-2 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night.
The Hurricanes scored four powerplay goals on the night to move to 30-25-6-0 on the season.
In eerily similar fashion, the Hurricanes had two goals re-directed of sticks in front to grab the early lead. Brad Morrison got his 24th of the season as his point shot hit a Wheat King defender’s stick in front and beat Logan Thompson through the fivehole.
Moments later, Dylan Cozens tipped home a Calen Addison point shot to give the Hurricanes the two goal cushion after one period.
Brandon came out flying in the 2nd period and fired 11 shots towards the Hurricanes net, breaking the goose egg just 2:20 into the frame. Connor Gutenberg found a loose puck under Logan Flodell and buried into the back of the goal.
Despite the early pressure and goal, penalty troubles would bury the Wheat Kings. The Hurricanes would score on back to back powerplays just 1:51 apart to open up a 4-1 lead. Jordy Bellarive would add another to give the Hurricanes a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Hurricanes would add two more from Egor Zudilov and Taylor Ross. Rylan Bettens would respond with a powerplay goal of his own, but it was too little too late for the Wheat Kings.
Brandon’s Calen Addison would finish the night with three assists while Bellarive picked up a goal and two assists for a three point night.
Logan Flodell turned aside 29 shots for the win, while Logan Thompson (27/32) and Dylan Myskiw (6/8) combined for 33 saves.
The Wheat Kings head to Medicine Hat Saturday night to continue this three in three weekend. (8:30 MB time on QCountry Radio)
