It’s Canada’s Agriculture Day – a day to celebrate and recognize the hard work and contributions of our farmers and agri-food industry.
The Canadian Centre for Food Integrity says “the industry plays a crucial role in feeding our nation and maintaining a strong economy.”
“The agriculture and agri-food industry are one of Canada’s largest employers, providing jobs for over 2.1 million Canadians. In 2021, the whole agriculture and agri-food system generated $134.9 billion (around 6.8%) of Canada’s gross domestic product. From coast to coast, farmers work tirelessly to produce high-quality food for Canadians and people around the world.”
The CCFI says “On Canada’s Agriculture Day, as we take time to recognize and appreciate the hardworking individuals and families in the agriculture industry, let us also acknowledge the numerous reasons to celebrate this important sector. From providing safe and nutritious food for our families, to driving economic growth and creating jobs, the contributions of the agriculture industry are invaluable.
We also want to recognize the innovation and technology that is being used in the agriculture industry. This helps to ensure that we have enough food to feed our growing population, while also being mindful of the environment.”
They say “Canadians are invited to share their love for Canadian agriculture and food today by using the official hashtag #CdnAgDay on social media. Some creative ways to join the online celebrations include: preparing a meal made from Canadian ingredients, sharing photos and videos of Canadian agriculture and local food, and thanking our farmers for their hard work and nutritious food they provide to Canadians and people around the world.”
