Dr. Robert Ward tops up food bank campaign to hit goal

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - A Brandon orthodontist stepped up and came to the rescue of Brandon's Halloween food drive.

The effort of Assiniboine Community College students, A & W and Progressive Westman on the East Side of Brandon had come up 1800 pounds short of their 5,000 pound goal Halloween night.

Spencer Day of Progressive Westman says Dr. Robert Ward had, earlier in the week, stated interest in the project, in aid of the Samaritan House food bank.

On the morning after Halloween, Day realized they were short of the goal.  One minute after texting Dr. Ward if he'd like to top up the food donation to hit the target, Ward responded "yes, I'm in".

Dr. Ward spent over $3000, as five volunteers spent four hours at Brandon's Walmart to gather and pack up the donation.
