Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - What Manitoba farmers don't need now is an early frost, especially after a late start to the growing season.

But there are fears that could happen after isolated areas in Alberta's Peace River region received frost about two weeks ago.

Weather experts say the cooler weather is actually being caused by warm water in the Gulf of Alaska. It creates a high-pressure ridge over western North America, and that ridge funnels arctic air further south.

If we get widespread frost before the second week in September - that could damage crops.
