Utility company wants rate hikes, after PUB hands down negative decision

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Manitoba Hydro could be raising your rates once again, the utility says to "meet its financial targets."

Officials say the annual electricity increase will now be 7.9 percent for the next seven years, and there could be even more in the future, if they don't get these rate hikes for the near future.

The Crown Utility said earlier the annual hikes would be over a five-year period, but the company has revised its statement, after the requested 7.9 percent boost was turned down by the provincial Public Utilities Board this summer.

The PUB will be holding public hearings from December 4th to February 9th on the proposed rate hike.
