Virden, MB (CKLQ) – For the third time in the last four years, the Virden Oil Capitals are set to take on the Winkler Flyers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs.
The Flyers beat the 7th seeded Oil Capitals last year in six games.
Back in 2014, the Oil Capitals beat the Flyers in six games.
This year will be the first time the two will have met in the MJHL semi-finals, as Virden beat Selkirk in five games and Winkler upset OCN in six games in their first round play.
Oil Capitals head coach Troy Leslie says some his players will be looking for revenge after last year’s defeat.
"Not a lot has changed between the two teams and I know some guys on our team would love to win this one," said Leslie.
Leslie says it will be an up-tempo series, a lot like last year as well.
The Oil Capitals finished with 83 points on the year, finishing in second place in the league.
Winkler finished in fifth with 70 points.
During the season, The Oil Capitals won the season series 4-1-0-1.
Virden will have home-ice advantage this time, with Game 1 on Friday starting at 7:30pm at Tundra Oil and Gas Place.
