Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – It was a night for the record books as the Brandon Wheat Kings knocked off the Vancouver Giants 6-5 on Friday night.
Special teams played a major factor in the game as only two of the eleven goals scored on the night were at even strength.
Kale Clague recorded his 2nd hat-trick of the season for Brandon as he registered four points on the night in a first star performance. Not to be outdone, Ty Ronning of the Giants had an identical stat line.
Brandon was able to convert four times on the powerplay on the night including goals on a pair of two-man advantages. In what is no doubt some sort of WHL record, four goals were scored on 5 on 3 scenarios tonight. (Requests to the WHL Media Department for stat clarification, have not been returned)
Stelio Mattheos (1G-1A), Ty Lewis (1G-2A) and Tanner Kaspick (2A) all had multi-point nights for Brandon while Logan Thompson made 29 saves for the victory.
On the other side of the coin, Dylan Plouffe had a pair of goals for Vancouver while Brad Morrison (2A), and Matt Barberis (2A) had multi-point nights in the losing cause. David Tendeck turned aside 26 of 32 shots he faced between the pipes.
Brandon will continue their BC Division homestand tonight when they welcome the Victoria Royals to Westman Place. (7:30 Puck Drop | 7:00 on 880 AM and 91.5 FM)
