The ACCSA event ran for 30 years

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - One of Assiniboine Community College's longest lasting events will not return in 2018.

The Assiniboine Community College Student Association's Sun of a Beach event, an indoor volleyball tournament, will end after its 30th year.

After a series of meetings involving the ACCSA Council, it was decided that the event will no longer run.

"It's difficult to say goodbye to such a well-established event within our community, but it was the right decision for the sake of our students," says ACCSA President Tulsa Labonté. "Our team is looking forward to implementing initiatives that will better serve ACC students in the future."

In November of 2017, the Assiniboine Community College Students' Association celebrated the 30th anniversary of the community event, hosting 60 teams.

It was also the third year of the event being held in November.

The decision to move the tournament from March to November was intended to make the tournament more accessible to Assiniboine students and college alumni.

Annual event reviews identified no significant increase in student or alumni participation.
