Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The Brandon Wheat Kings looked to shake off a weeks worth of rust as they took on the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night.
Brandon, who hadn't played since last Saturday's 2-0 win over Kootenay, knocked off the Saskatoon Blades 3-1 in front of over 4800 fans at Westman Place.
After a scoreless first period, where both teams traded chances Brandon got on the board on the powerplay.
Baron Thompson redirected home his 3rd of the year off a Zach Wytinck point shot to break the shutout bid for Ryan Kubic and give Brandon their first lead of the night.
The Wheat Kings outshot the Blades 12-4 in the 2nd period.
In the third, Baron Thompson was at it again setting up Stelio Mattheos with a great feed on an odd man rush. Mattheos' 11th of the season would give Brandon some much needed insurance.
The Blades would spoil Logan Thompson's bid for his 2nd consecutive shutout with a shorthanded marker late in the 3rd period, but an Evan Weinger empty netter would seal the deal and lift Brandon to their 11th victory of the season.
Logan Thompson was named the game's first star after a 36 save performance, while Ryan Kubic turned aside 22 shots in the Blades net.
Brandon will be back on home ice on Tuesday night when they welcome the Calgary Hitmen.
