Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Jordin Tootoo, the first Inuk player in the history of the N-H-L, says he is retiring from the league after 13 seasons.
Tootoo made the announcement in Brandon, where he became a star with the Western Hockey League’s Wheat Kings.
He made history when he was selected by Nashville in the fourth round, 98th overall, of the 2001 N-H-L draft.
Tootoo says when he came to Brandon in 1999, he didn’t think of himself as an Indigenous role model, just a hockey player that would fight with everything he had to make the N-H-L.
