Finished season 24-0-0-0

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The Vincent Massey Vikings hockey team has just completed the first undefeated season in the Westman High School Hockey history.

The team finished off the season with a convincing 11-2 victory over Souris on Sunday.

With the win Vincent Massey finished 24-0-0-0 on the season.

Head Coach Dan Landry says he knew the team would be good, but not this good.

"We had high hopes for the start of the year, but I thought maybe we would lay an egg at least once this year." said Landry.

Their closest game was in Reston, when they beat REM 4-3 in overtime.

With the undefeated season, and as three-time reigning champions of the league, he expects many teams will take a serious run with the playoffs start this week.

"We certainly have a target on our back, and we're expecting every teams best." said Landry.

But first the team needs to go through provincial qualifying which takes place this weekend in Hamiota.

Vincent Massey has the #1 seed and will start play on Saturday.

The team is desperately trying to get themselves to provincials in order to prove themselves, especially to the Winnipeg market which has left them off every MHSAA Top 10 list this year.

"We haven't even seen acknowledgment," said Landry.

"But in a way, this is pushing our team to be better.

The other teams in the provincial qualifier is Crocus, Neepawa, Dauphin and Virden.
