Regina, SK (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings took a little too long to get off the bus on Saturday night as they fell behind early and couldn’t take a lead, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Regina Pats.
The Pats fired 19 shots on goal in the opening period jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the process.
George King opened the scoring on the powerplay midway thru the opening frame before Matt Bradley added the insurance marker on a penalty shot.
The Wheat Kings would show some life in the 2nd period as Stelio Mattheos scored a pair of powerplay goals less than three minutes apart to tie the game at two.
However, with less than 2:00 to play in the frame, Wyatt Sloboshian streaked into the zone and snapped his first of the season under the bar to help the Pats retake the lead.
Regina would take a two goal lead again midway thru the 3rd when Matt Bradley potted his 2nd of the night.
A late push by the Wheat Kings proved to be too little to late and despite a Tanner Kaspick goal to cut the lead to one, the Wheat Kings were unable to tie the game in the dying seconds.
The Wheat Kings now have a week off to prepare for a two game homestand.
Red Deer is in town on Friday, while Swift Current will roll into town on Saturday night.
