Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings used a trio of power-play goals Friday night to earn their first WHL pre-season victory, 4-2 over the Regina Pats.
Kade Jensen (1G-2A), Connor Gutenberg (1G-1A), Ben McCartney (1G-1A) & Garrett Sambrook (2A) all had multi-point nights as the Wheat Kings improved to 4-0 vs the Pats in exhibition action, dating back to last year.
Five of the six goals scored on Friday night came on the man advantage. Brandon finished the night 3/5 on the power-play, while the Pats went 2/7.
16-year-old Ethan Kruger made his WHL debut between the pipes for Brandon and kicked aside 28 shots for his first career victory.
At the other end, Tyler Brown and Kurtis Chapman combined for 26 saves in the losing effort.
Jeff de Witt scored twice for the Pats, who outshot the Wheat Kings 23-13 through 40 minutes of play.
The two teams will do it all again on Saturday night at the Brandt Centre in Regina.
The Q-Country pre-game show begins at 7:30 p.m., with puck drop at 8:00 p.m.
