Wheat Kings will entertain the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The Brandon Wheat Kings were back on the ice at Westman Place on Monday following a weekend split with the Regina Pats.

The club opened the WHL pre-season with a 4-2 win on Friday night before dropping a 3-1 decision in Regina the following night.

"It's not easy playing back to back games in the WHL...especially on the road." said Head Coach David Anning following Monday's session. "That was an adjustment for a lot of guys and it's good to get that experience under their belt."

As the Wheat Kings prepare for the Moose Jaw Warriors this weekend, practice was loaded with a number of drills focused on puck handling and puck movement.

One of the big question marks coming out of the first two games was the parade to the penalty box, and when it would stop. The Wheat Kings took 14 minor penalties on the weekend, in which the Pats were able to convert four times.

"Its about using our sticks better and using our legs better so we don't take as many penalties," added Anning. "It's about working together in small areas... We saw signs of it this weekend but we want to keep supporting the puck and being around the puck more."

The Wheat Kings will entertain the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night to kick off a home and home that will wrap up the pre-season schedule.

Puck drop on Friday night is 7:30 p.m. with the Q-Country pre-game show set to hit the air at 7:00 p.m.
