Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – As they continue planning for their inaugural season, the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks baseball club announce their new General Manager.
Westman Radio veteran Ray Walker has officially accepted the position.
"Wow, what a whirlwind it’s been getting on board with the Whiskey Jacks! Steve Wagner our President has been so kind, he and his wife Connie gave me the job last week, I officially started yesterday," Walker said.
Although the season doesn’t start until late May, Walker will have his plate full of things to accomplish.
"I’ve literally hit the ground running with a list of tasks as we look forward to an exciting season," Walker said.
Though the weather hasn’t fully shifted into baseball mode just yet the management team is already formulating ideas for the upcoming Westman debut of the team and the Expedition League.
"We’re waiting to get into Andrew’s Field, there’s still some snow on the infield grass. The quicker we can get into the ball park the better, we’ve got a whole ton of ideas on the table right now," Walker said.
Feature games, theme days at the ball park and more surprises will highlight the Whiskey Jacks season and the club is also planning a job fair.
"We have an intern staff of 10, we’ll have a game day staff of 25 as well and our job fair will be held at Andrew’s Field on April 6th and 7th" said Walker.
The job fair will provide all the information aspiring supporters of the club will need to know.
"We’re looking for game day staff, that could be ticket takers, people in the concession or anybody who wants to work in the press box and do statistics, game announcers and you can find out all about the Whiskey Jacks. Everybody is welcome to come out to our job fair they’ be held late morning to mid afternoon on those dates," Walker said.
Among the many tasks Walker is undertaking will be finding billets for the players.
"We’re looking for host families for our players, they’ll be college age players between 20 and 23-years-old these are the players that get to the show but they have to start somewhere," Walker said.
Those interested in becoming billets can attend the job fair.
"It’s time to get excited about the inaugural season or as we like to say, #GetJacked with our hash tag on social media," Walker said.
Opening day at home is Tuesday May 28, 2019. The Whiskey Jacks host the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs at Andrews Field. First pitch at 7:05 p.m.
